I don't know if anyone is reading this old post, but I thought it an appropriate place to respect Charles Machesky . After retiring as superintendent of Uniontown Area School District (with a nice pension I am sure), he volunteered to remain in his job without pay. For 11 years. I wonder whether any Evanston superintendents value their community enough to do that. cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/…

Given what I have learned about the superintendent business, in general, I don't think you'd find any current living superintendent willing to make that sacrifice for their community. It's a political job these days, not an educational one.
