I'm for Jeff. He has a campaign office near Bennison's on Davis. We do not need any more of the extraordinary expense of outside consultants for projects that are poorly thought out and detrimental to the unique character of our community. Remember the search for a new city manager - They ended up with Luke Stowe, who was the IT Manager. There's also the extraordinary legal fees incurred in the last 4 years, including the lawsuit by Most Livable City concerning concerts at Ryan Field. The LUC voted against the concerts. Biss did not care. And there is a wrongful termination lawsuit: https://www.foiagras.com/p/bird-v-evanston-legal-fallout-from

This is why I’m not enthusiastic about Jeff. I really don’t care one way or another about the stadium but I think it is fine that they are going to have concerts there. The more they use the place to bring in people spending money, great.

The Bird lawsuit and the city manager search are part of the same source: Equity Army and the Same Thirty People pushing narrow NIMBY views to intimidate the council.

The first round of the manager search the city brought in weak candidates whose main attraction was that they ticked an identity box. In subsequent rounds when they brought in more serious people, The Same Thirty People objected because… equity.

The Bird lawsuit is actually the place where Biss has handled himself well. Birds claims are so ridiculous that they will never hold up in court. Complete birdshit.

I think Biss has generally done a good job at keeping the Same Thirty People and ridiculous council members like Devon Reid at bay.

The one thing I am worried about with regard to Jeff is that the Same Thirty People and Reid-wannabes are lining up behind him.

Now this May be part of their anti-everything disposition (I’m old enough to remember them lining up behind Steve Haggerty because Mark Tendam was too status-quo)

But we will see.

I can assure you I am not aligned with the Real Housewives of D65 Facebook Group or wackadoodle Reid. That said, I am ready for change and Jeff represents that wholesale. Not everyone who doesn’t like Biss is a rabid equity army private. Folks should visit Jeff’s office or website and think about if what is going on now makes sense, or if we need change. I think the latter.

The concerts at Ryan Field are Dillo Day times 3: Superior Ambulance, fentanyl testing strips, Narcan, The LUC opposed the concerts.

Oh geez. Do we really need to re-litigate the concerts here with things that are this misleading? Dillo Day is a student-produced concert on campus, the concerts at new Ryan Field would be primarily in the late spring and summer (when football is not occurring but outdoor events can) and produced by national concert organizers who are going to look at the demographics of the surrounding area during that time. As has been said MANY times. Looking at who's coming to Chicago are this summer, Evanston would be more likely to get a Dave Matthews Band than a Kendrick Lamar (thought I would love the latter more!). The concerts are the way to bring revenue to Evanston, not just in the form of ticket taxes but visitors who might come back to visit our restaurants, bars, and shopping. As for your other part, harm prevention like fentanyl testing and narcan are a good thing, unless you enjoy people accidentally overdosing. I'd highly recommend the show The Pitt for a ficitionalized take on how fentanyl-laced pills can have a ripple affect. Maybe that will dredge up more empathy than protecting young people in your actual community. The ghost of Frances Willard is alive and well in how Evanston residents react to the real world now.

Yeah, I kind of feel like its a little of both. Despite the fears, Rammstein isn't going to be playing Ryan Field anytime soon. Before Toby Keith died, he was my example of the kind of act that would play there, but DMB is a good example. Another one might be Billy Joel or Stevie Nicks. These will be concerts appealing to the North Shore crowd willing to drop $500/seat.

On the other hand, they did approve a lot of smaller events that are not necessarily concerts, something like 60 smaller events. Which while not chaotic like a concert, will probably be a headache for local homeowners. I can imagine things like Marching Band competitions, and so on.

Also, because I'm faculty @ Northwestern, I go to Dillo Day, it's a ton of fun and not really as drug addled as it once was. The kids these days aren't as fun!

Yeah, but those smaller events include daytime things like farmer's markets or children's events. Like a weekly farmer's market for 12 or 16 weeks would be 20+% of those 60 events. These are things that could bring value to the community. Even a marching band competition doesn't sound that terrible to me. The MLCA's fearmongering about "Dillo Day x 3," Riot Fest, and gun shows show a profound misunderstanding of what event promoters would consider before hosting a public event or concert in Evanston. They want to make money, and they have to cater to the audience that's around here.

Yeah, it will be the Ravinia wine and cheese crowd that they are competing for. Agree with you there. But I can see things that bring in a lot of busses being annoying if you live nearby.

Northwestern didn't do themselves any favors though, by being more specific on these things. They left a lot of room for people to be suspicious.

But I don't live anywhere near there, so ???
