Couple of events today related to District 65.

  • 2pm Special Board Meeting to Approve Bids for the Fifth Ward School

  • 4pm Groundbreaking for the New School - at the site

A summary of the bids is available in this document, provided by Cordogan Clark. The high level part is included in the image below, which shows the bids coming in about $176,318 under budget (or about 11%).

I wrote about bid package #1 and #2 in this story, which amounts to the work to clear the site, excavate, mitigate soil issues, and install the building foundation. The District received two bids for Package #1 and 1 bid for Package #2. It looks like a third company, Fowler Enterprises submitted a bid as well but it was redacted.

Those of you with more construction experience can leave a comment but this seems like a positive development? In addition, the District will be hiring an Owner’s Representative, Turner & Townsend Heery, which seems like the public sector consultancy for CBRE.

Anyway, the groundbreaking will be at 4pm and I’ll be there. If you see me, say hello!

I drove by there today and there is no sign of any work taking place. I thought Bid 1 said work was supposed to start last week.
