Lionel, thanks for your post. I’ve been asking this of each of the candidates, One of the key jobs of the board is to hire a superintendent. After decades of conducting open searches where finalists were announced to the public and the district held open meetings with finalists, the current board conducted searches entirely in the dark, without public input.
Would you vote to continue this practice? Or go back to a public-facing superintendent search for the next vacancy?
I believe the ONLY way to redirect this district is to have FULL transparency! I have been to district meetings imploring the board to be more transparent with the community and their decision making, however it fell on deaf ears.
The candidates had a meet & greet with the superintendent a couple of weeks ago, we were being brought up to speed on what the superintendent needed from the new board members to be successful. She said she needed the board to TRUST her and not be swayed by the community. If you’re being transparent, the communities thoughts and opinions wouldn’t sway the board. If you’re being transparent you go to the board and say “my sister is up for a raise, our last names are different, here’s how I believe she earned her raise.”
I could go on, however the answer to the question is I would vote to have the process go back to a public-facing superintendent search. I want the public to ask questions, get to know the superintendent and be approachable. After all, the superintendent should live in the community and be accessible to the community.

Hello Penny, you’re welcome.
